Mustaqbil ki Talash” – Career Awareness Initiative for High School Students

By Our Correspondent

Shah Jamal, South Punjab : A pioneering career awareness initiative, *“Mustaqbil ki Talash,”* aimed at high school students, concluded with a landmark event in Shah Jamal. The project, led by a dedicated team of students from Nishtar Medical College, seeks to address the critical lack of career guidance among students, particularly girls, in the region.

Dr. Aamir Laghari, MD, Chief Cardiology Fellow at Lehigh Valley Health Network, and Director of the Education Innovation Network and Poverty Eradication Program, lauded the success of the project, stating, *“We are humbled to announce the successful completion of ‘Mustaqbil ki Talash,’ the first-ever career awareness project launched in South Punjab. This initiative is a step towards unlocking the untapped potential of students, providing them with the tools to build successful futures.”*

The project, which began on July 27, 2024, was prompted by research revealing that over 80% of high school students in Shah Jamal lack clear career paths after graduation. To combat this, a 45-day awareness campaign culminated in a conference held at Government Girls High School, Shah Jamal, on September 11, 2024.

The project focused on informing students about diverse career opportunities, encouraging them to pursue paths that align with their passions and strengths.
Sessions were conducted to offer guidance on scholarships and financial aid, empowering students to overcome financial barriers to higher education.
Dr . Ayesha Fatima said that the students were encouraged to adopt a growth mindset, motivating them to set and work toward future goals.

She further added that more than 200 students participated in detailed career sessions at the AI Center, with an additional 400 receiving general career guidance.

A booklet outlining the top 15 professions in Pakistan, complete with entry requirements and career prospects, was distributed to all participants.
The conference featured “Meri Kahani” sessions, where experts and student leaders shared their own career journeys, adding a personal and relatable element to the guidance provided.

The project has been particularly impactful for female students, who often face societal and cultural barriers in pursuing higher education. By offering them the resources and motivation to pursue their dreams, *“Mustaqbil ki Talash”* has played a vital role in inspiring future generations of women leaders in the region.

Dr. Laghari expressed his gratitude to project leads, Ayesha Fatima and Usman Khan, for their tireless dedication, and extended thanks to Asif Laghari, the operational director, for his logistical support throughout the project.

*“Mustaqbil ki Talash”* marks the beginning of a broader effort to uplift communities through education and poverty eradication. The long-term impact of this initiative will be closely tracked, with hopes of expanding it to benefit even more students in the future.
