58% of the population of South Punjab is engaged in agriculture

Multan: A delegation of senior officers of the 35th Mid Career Management Course of the National Institute of Management Islamabad visited the South Punjab Secretariat Multan and met Secretary Servicers South Punjab Ms.Naushin Malik. The delegation was led by Director National Institute of Management Masood Ahmed. Additional Secretary Mohammad Farooq Dogar and Deputy Secretaries Ali Atif Butar and Abdul Saboor Thakur were also present in the meeting.
Secretary Services South Punjab Ms Naushin Malik, while briefing the delegation on this occasion, said that the South Punjab Secretariat is playing an important role in the development of this region and a new era of progress has started with the allocation of a separate development budget by the Punjab government.She said more development funds are being given to South Punjab as compared to the population ratio and 237 billion rupees are being spent on development projects in the current financial year.Ms Naushin Malik said development in education, health, agriculture and livestock sectors is the first target of the government and reducing the poverty rate and raising the standard of living of the people are among the top priorities.She said that this was a very fertile region from agriculture point of view and can fulfil all food security needs of the country and alot of efforts are being made to increase per acer yeilds of crops. Naushin Malik said that the organizing School Olympics and establishing Students’ Council in schools are the proud initiatives of Education Department , while the Education Department of South Punjab has the honuor of establishing the first transgender Asif school in Pakistan. She said due to the monitoring in the health sector, there has been improvement in service delivery in rural areas. Similarly, work is going on on various projects for the development of livestock and fisheries sectors and plans are being made to construct mini-dams on Nullahs in DG Khan Division,she added.Ms Naushin Malik further informed that Industry, social welfare, labour and other departments will be shifted to South Punjab in a phased manner. Secretary Services further informed in the briefing that the population of South Punjab consists of 34.7 million people and 23% of the population is pertaining to urban area. It was told in the briefing that 58 percent of the population of South Punjab is associated with agriculture, 24percent with services while 18 percent with industry.It was disclosed that
40939 industrial units are working in South Punjab. A question and answer session was also held on this occasion and questions were asked about public service delivery by the members of the delegation.
Secretary Services Naushin Malik presented a commemorative shield to the delegation.Multani shawl and Multani kashi Gari Cups were also presented to all the members of the delegation.
